Nestled in the northern reaches of this historic land, our roots run deep, echoing the time-honored practices of viticulture and winemaking that have defined our region for centuries.
Tavush, adorned with lush landscapes and steeped in history, serves as the cradle of the renowned Lalvari and Banants endemic grapes. Our vineyards are blessed by the gentle caress of the Tavush sun, fostering the growth of these exceptional grapes and giving rise to the exquisite grape nectar that graces the most northern terroirs of Armenia.
Since ancient times, viticulture and wine-making were traditional occupations of the inhabitants of this region of historical Armenia. In the early Middle Ages the area was known as TUS. An ethnonym at first, TUS later became a toponym, and in the VIII-IX centuries it changed its pronunciation to Tavush, as we know it today. Till this very day “TUS” reminds us of its glorious past and successfully continues the centuries-old traditions of wine-making in Tavush..
LALVARI grape is an indigenous Armenian variety, common to north-eastern horticultural zone, mainly to Noyemberian district of Tavush Province. It belongs to oriental eco-geographical group. The name of the variety derives from Lalvar Mountain. Lalvari is characterized by large, dense and conical bunches, sometimes with wings from both sides and big, ovate berries.
